Famous Last Words: Spring Break

(Sunny Day: PxHere)

It was so nice to finally be able to take a break from school. It was honestly getting overwhelming. I did not get to travel anywhere for spectacular spring break, since I had work, but I still had a lot of fun doing nothing! Also, the weather was so nice outside; it made me super happy to see the sun shining (aka I hate the cold lol). I did get to take a day trip to Tulsa though. I am originally from Tulsa, but I did not stay that long because my parents were out of town. I went to Tulsa to show my boyfriend around. He had only been a couple times, but he did not get to do anything fun, so I wanted to show him all the cool stuff in town. Since, we were only there for a day, we did not get to visit everything I wanted to show him, but we did go to some very cool spots. We went to the zoo, then to a food market, and then to the Boxyard, which is a shopping center that had metal containers as buildings. All these places were primarily located in North Tulsa, but if we ever go again, I would want to take him the West Tulsa, as there are a lot of fun activities and cool places there too.

As for this class, I really enjoyed this week's reading. I chose to watch the Epified videos of Mahabharata, and I loved it. It can be really hard for me to get into reading especially if the language is a bit older than modern English, but these videos were so engaging! The drawings really helped me visualize each character and actually helped me remember all them (there are so many it is kind of overwhelming hahah). Also, the narrators' voices were so soothing; I could listen to them all day!

Famous Last Words: Dancing Again

(Winter Mountatin: Pixabay)

This week was literally a blur. I am having a really hard time remembering what all happened in this past week. The biggest thing is that I have started dancing again. Me and a few people I know formed a group to dance at this k-pop event, so we are dancing to a few k-pop songs. I really enjoy dancing, so I do like having something to get my mind off of school and work, but it definitely has been hard because I have been facilitating practice and kind of leading everyone, which can be tiring. I also have been learning the dances on my own and teaching it to everyone else, so dancing in this event is a bit time consuming for me. Hopefully, the end product will be good, and it will make all of this work worth it.

For the assignments in this class, I really enjoyed writing my story this week. I wrote a love story between Arjuna and Urvashi, which is no where close to how the original story went. I used a different story telling method this week, and strayed away from using a lot of dialogue. Usually, I have a bunch of speaking parts in my stories, but I did not want to do that again. Instead, I focused on vivid imagery. I tried my best to use a lot of adjectives and detailed descriptions of the surroundings and the characters. I really liked how my story turned out. It is definitely different than how I usually write my stories, but I am more than satisfied with the final writing. Other than that, my week has been the same, except for the fact I have been freezing my butt off in this cold weather. I am not a fan of the cold, and I hope it goes away soon.

Famous Last Words: STRESSED

(Desk Work: Pixabay)

This week I had my kinetics and separations exam on the same day, so I was definitely stressed this past week. My kinetics exam was 3 hours long, and I definitely felt like a freshman because that was the last time I had to take 3 hour long exams. It was quite brutal. Thankfully, the week is over, so my schedule is kind of back to normal, but new week poses new academic challenges. My unit operations lab is sort of killing me, but I am in proactiveness is kicked into high gear, so I hope all goes well. Me and my boyfriend's 10-month anniversary is tomorrow, so that will definitely be a highlight of my week, and hopefully fuel me enough energy to get through the week.

This week's assignments were very interesting. The Mahabharata is super packed with a lot of scenes, so it can get kind of confusing, especially since there are so many different characters. However, the story is very amusing, so I can not wait to finish it next week. We also started giving feedback on projects, and it was so cool to see everyone's storybook. I chose to do a portfolio, so I am just revising my old stories, but it was so awesome being able to see other student's storybook! I definitely saw some very unique ideas, and I can not wait to see how they pull off their storybook. I also did a Tech Tip as one of my extra credit assignments, and I added a featured post onto my blog. Before, I just had a weather app at the bottom of my blog, but now I have the featured post to balance out some of the negative space, so I am definitely enjoying how completed my blog looks now after adding that gadget.

Famous Last Words: The Week of Writing

This week was super crazy. Since it was Valentine's this past week, I tried my best to get my work done early, but I was still on the struggle bus on doing my assignments (haha i cri). But it is okay! I had a great Valentine's Day with my boyfriend. We went to dinner in the city, chilled, and I still managed to turn in all of my assignments. What was different about this week's homework was that I had to do a lot of writing this week, which is abnormal because I generally do a lot of math and science. I had a paper due today, and I can not even remember when the last time I had to write a 1500 word essay was, so it was definitely a change a pace to say the least.

In Indian Epics this week, I got a lot of feedback on my stories, which was awesome because I love reading people's thoughts and critiques on my stories. Also, I have never gotten such in depth feedback on anything I have written until I put up my first story on my profile! Although the feedback was long (because my story was long lol), I really enjoyed being able to receive such in depth comments. It really made me feel really good and very open in trying to further improve my portfolio.

Hopefully, this upcoming week will not be as crazy as last week. Actually, I lied. If anything, next week will probably be more crazy, since I have two of my chemical engineering exams that are on the same day. I better get to studying, huh? Wish me luck, and stay tuned next week to see how stressed out I might be this week and how my tests went! Peace out, girl scout.

Famous Last Words: My First Midterm, Lunar New Year, Planning Summer Trip

(Work Stressed: Pixabay)

A lot when on this week, and to be honest, I am having a hard time recalling where the days went.

I had my first midterm this past Thursday, and let me just say, it was quite a doozey. In this class I just had a midterm in, we actually have five midterms, as well as a final. So to say the least, I am quite stressed out about this class. Actually, I am quite stressed with all of my classes. This semester has probably got to be the most homework heavy semester of my collegiate career. I have multiple assignments due each week for every class. This semester will definitely test my mental stability.

On a more lighthearted note, I went back home this weekend to celebrate Lunar New Year with my family. Lunar New Year is actually on Tuesday, but I have classes on that day, which is why I went home early. We ate lots of good food, plus I got a lot of red envelopes, which is really helping me out, since I feel like I am always on the struggle bus when it comes to money. I guess that's just one of the infamous problems college students have.

Also, I am starting to plan my trip to South Korea in May! My sister moved there last February for her teaching job, so I have not seen her in quite a while! This trip will give me the chance to visit her, and I have always wanted to visit there, so it is like I am killing two birds with one stone. Plus, I get free housing, since my sister already has a place, so I am hoping that this trip will not be so harsh on my bank account because, like I said before, I am on the struggle bus for saving money.

Famous Last Words: Chaotic First Week of School

(Scales of Justice: Public Domain Pictures)

My favorite reading this week definitely had to be the Jataka Tales. I liked the collection of stories because they were not too long, so they were fairly easy to follow and read. Even though each story was short, each theme was very apparent and left a strong impression, which is totally my style. I really have a hard time reading prose that has hidden theme just because I am not that skilled when it comes to dissecting written works.

Overall, I am really enjoying this course. It is a nice change of pace from my heavily math and science based classes, and I like how I can learn and do the assignments freely.

In other news, this week was very chaotic, as the first week of the first semester always is. What was even more chaotic was those two young ladies that decided to post a Snapchat video of them doing blackface and mocking the Black-American community. That definitely took up a large portion of my social media timelines for awhile. From what I hear, they initially seemed to have no true punishment, but President Gallogly sent out an email earlier today stating the two ladies' expulsion. Now, I am not sure exactly what happened for administration to change their minds, but I do in some way support their expulsion. Although I wish there was a more rehabilitative method to address the issue, I have a hard time seeing the full effectiveness of such rehabilitation, so expulsion was probably the most immediate and responsive solution to get rid of the racial ignorance. However, I did see a humorous idea for a solution on Twitter, which I actually thought of too, which was have the two ladies explain themselves in front of the Black-American community at OU. A part of me just thought it would be funny, but I actually do wonder how the young ladies would respond to being in a room full of people that they were belittling. I really wonder if that would be an effective way to resolve racial ignorance.
