Introduction to The Coolest But Most Boring Person You'll Ever Meet

Wassup. My name is Elena Guo, and I am probably the coolest but most boring person you'll ever meet. Nice to meet you.

Major + Future Career
I am Chemical Engineer major. Yes, it's hard. Yes, I'm struggling. But it's okay because hopefully I'll get a job that pays lots of money. Ha, just kidding (but not really, ya know how it is). What I hope to do with my chemical engineering degree is cosmetics curator and chemist. That's the dream, but for now I just have a part time job at a donut shop that helps me pay for the things I want but don't need.

Hobbies
As you read my hobbies, you will find that I am very similar to a sloth and here's why.

My favorite hobby, above all else, is to sleep and take naps. I'm not really sure why because it's not like I'm a sleep deprived person, but I think the combination of laying down and not doing anything really speaks to me. I also really like to watch TV... while laying down, or I guess watching them while sitting is cool too, but if I can lay down then I've really hit the jackpot. Some of my favorite shows include Friends and New Girl. I love to eat too. Anything really. I'm really not a picky person, but Asian food is my favorite (it's probably because I'm Asian but let's not assume anything okay LOL).

Now here are some hobbies that less sloth-like and more human-like.

Going back to me buying things that I want but don't need - I love to online shop. It's so fast and convenient; it's pretty dangerous actually. It also supports my whole laying down and not moving lifestyle I like to live. But hey here's a plot twist for ya... I like to dance. Whaaaaaa? I know right? I just went on and on about how I like to lay down and not move. You know, if I were you, I wouldn't believe me either. But yes, it's true. I like to dance, and I love music, which is probably why I like to dance. Now I'm not saying I'm good at it or anything (please don't ask me to dance for you if you ever actually meet me) but I do enjoy occasional groove and jiggy (I repeat, don't ask me to dance I'm shy ok haha). My favorite genre of dance and music is hip-hop. I've been listening to it ever since I was a witty bitty kid, and now, I can't live without it.

Speaking of things I can't live without. I could really use a nap right now. So peace out. Hopefully you learned what kind of person I am through this blog post. Now I'm gonna go knock out.

P.S.
You're probably wondering what about me is so cool. Nothing! This was a classic click bait technique.

  1. Ha ha, Elena, clickbait indeed: that's a 21st-century digital skill! And writing good story titles is actually a serious challenge in this class, and good project titles too. Whatever it takes to get people to pay attention.
And Friends has been a part of this class since the beginning: year after year, people adapt the cast of Friends to tell stories; sometimes they even do a whole Storybook project inspired by Friends! And that also takes care of the whole title problem, ha ha, because Friends has its own very distinctive title style: The One with.....
Maybe you will do a Friends-inspired story for your storytelling in Week 2. :-)

  2. I feel you on the online shopping thing. I can browse through Amazon at a ridiculous speed and add so many things to my cart before I realize I’m making a mistake. Also, naps are great! That’s coming from the type of person who is busy all the time. At least if feels like my life is hectic. After work? It’s nap time! After school? Same! Sleep helps us be productive.

  3. Hello Elena. I feel a kinship with any one who can value taking time to do effectively nothing. It is my absolute favorite thing to do. But life keeps us all busy right? Especially if you are a Chemical Engineering Major.
I also have to agree with Professor Gibbs that a Friends-inspired story could be extremely well suited to our course work. The first thing I think of is Ross' monkey. What a great opportunity to bring Hanuman to life!

  4. Hi Elena!
Naps are just a quality way to spend your time, and being able to nap is a highly important skill! Especially when you take engineering into account (I too am on the engineering struggle bus). Also, New Girl is one of my all-time favorite shows and they really need to put Season 7 on Netflix. Best of luck with the semester!

  5. Hey Elena! Friends is, in my opinion, the cornerstone of modern sitcoms. Everybody and their dog knows about Friends and Netflix even paid a boatload of cash to keep it on their lineup. I like naps too but just wish I had a little more time to do them. But I am not as much of the fan of dancing as you are.

  6. Hi Elena,
Friends and New Girl are addictive! I loved dance when I was little, but I was more of a ballet/jazz girl. I completely agree that napping and laying down are fantastic pass times. I don't have nearly enough time to do that this semester. And pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering definitely earns you some nap time! I wish you all the luck in coming semesters.

  7. Hey Elena,
I can completely relate to sleeping and napping even though I am not sleep deprived. I really wish I liked to online shop, every time I buy something it tends not to fit. I can spend hours in a mall and not spend any money (other then at the food court) I am also to impatient to online shop because I want the thing, I bought but did not need that very second. I also love New Girl, Schmidt is my favorite character.

  8. Hey Elena, I think its super dope you work at a donut shop. Do you like donuts or is it just chill part time job? Also, just like everyone else, I feel obligated to comment on the nap situation. As per the very clear consensus, I feel a very small need to voice my opinion but I shall; naps are bomb. There's never a bad time for a nap.

  9. Elena,

It is nice to meet you! Your introduction was so relatable. I also enjoy taking naps. I used to take them all the time, but having a job and being in 17 hours at school doesn't allow me that great pleasure anymore. Hmmm maybe someday soon, haha! Also, I love online shopping too. My entire introduction post was about my addiction to online shopping. I totally accept it, and I love how it makes me feel. Plus hey, if we don't ever treat ourselves now, will we ever? Its an honest thought. Enjoy your semester, Elena!

  10. Hi Elena, as boring as your life may seem, it is a life that all college kids secretly want. Sleeping is the absolute best and I will take as much as I can get. I think that is super interesting that you are a chemical engineer but want to go into the cosmetics industry. Online shopping is very addictive. My weakness is the “1-click” buy option on Amazon….it has gotten me in trouble a few times.

  11. Hey Elena! I absolutely LOVE your post. It was funny, entertaining, and energetic. Yes, energetic despite all the napping. I actually found myself smiling while reading your post, because how entertaining it was. Back to napping, however. I love how you OWN this quality. I too love taking frequent naps BUT I am always making an excuse to take my nap. Like why do I need an excuse? I am inspired by you, and will not feel guilty about my nap-taking, and I will cease making excuses! Thanks, Girl!!!!

  12. Hello, Elena!
I can tell you are quite witty and funny by the way that you describe your passion for sleeping and laying down. I also share that passion, as well as a love for the show "Friends." Who is favorite character from the show?? Mine has to be Phoebe because she always says the most random but funny lines out of everyone. Your major sounds really cool and really challenging... and using it for cosmetics is really unique!

  13. Hey Elena!
That is pretty cool you want to become a chemical engineer. That is what one of my best friend is studying. I thought about chemical engineering but decided to just go with Biochemistry because I don't like physics haha. You are very creative and your voice really shines through your writing.

  14. Hi Elena,

I love your post! It really showed your personality through it well! I am similar to you with the whole sleeping, eating and shopping mantra. Sephora spa my money like no other. I like to live by the motto Treat Yo'self even though I cannot afford that lifestyle. FRIENDS is such a great show! It is a classic! I hope for a reunion episode. Anyways, it was nice to read a bit about you!

  15. Hi Elena! I actually never thought about chemical engineering with make-up, but after you pointed that out, make-up is obviously made up of chemicals. It is actually such a cool overlap of interests. I felt like I was actually hearing you talk (despite never meeting you or hearing your voice) rather than reading a blog post just because of your writing voice-which I think is really cool. I'm very similar too thought lol. I love being at home, watch shows, sleep, relax, etc. but I love to dance when I go out or something. Again, I'm not saying I'm good either, but I like to dance lol. I think sometimes people when they first meet me are surprised I go from being so inactive to active haha. Anyway, great blog and I look forward to more!

  16. Hi Elena!

Chemical engineering is difficult. I started off biomedical engineering pre-dental but realized in doing that I was making things way harder than they needed to be. Instead I switched to biology pre-dental. It is cool that you want to work with the chemistry behind cosmetics. To be honest, I don't often think about the hard work that goes into making make up or hygiene products. I use these kind of products every day though, so I appreciate what you are trying to do!

  17. Hey Elena,

I really enjoyed your writing style with this introduction, it felt more like a conversation with a friend than reading a classmates blog. It was very informal and that kept me laughing and reading. I also am a huge laying down and sleeping person. If I can lay down anywhere, I will (heck, I'm even lying down as I type this.) Good luck on chem engineering, that sounds really tough. Also, I love Asian food too, I would check out Thai Delight on campus corner if you haven't already, its really good!

  18. Hi Elena,
I love that you compare yourself to a sloth. I also love to lay down in my cozy bed and take naps/ watch TV. I've never really been a ~huge~ nap person, I really only actually fall asleep when I am sleep deprived, but I lay in my bed and watch TV a little more than I probably should, it's kind of like a trap, I can't move once I'm comfortable. New Girl and Friends are two of my favorite shows!!!! Those, The Office, and Parks and Rec never get old to me.

  19. Hey Elena,
Can I say I deeply connect with your love of naps and sleep? *insert snooze emojis* Hahaha. It's interesting that you want to go into cosmetics with your degree as well, and I wish you all the best in pursuing those! Since you work there, what's your favourite kind of donut? :D It was great to meet you; I really enjoyed reading your Introduction!

  20. Elena,

Like most other commenters posting here, I think I can agree that the best thing do do is take a nap. I make a habit of stating that my favorite thing to do is nothing at all. Now if only we could all take turns doing just that. Maybe then we could all do what we enjoy, but still get things done, right?
